Accessible website design, built to WCAG 2.1 AA

Websites that everyone can use — with a keyboard, a screen reader, a zoomed-in screen or motion turned down. Built to WCAG 2.1 level AA from the first line, not patched at the end.

What accessible website design includes

Readable for everyone

Text and buttons with enough contrast, sizes that can be zoomed, and layouts that do not break at 200%.

Works with a keyboard

Every link, button and form field can be reached and used without a mouse, with a clearly visible focus.

Understood by screen readers

A logical heading structure, labelled forms, described images and error messages that are announced.

Motion under control

The “reduce motion” setting is respected, and nothing flashes or moves in a way that cannot be avoided.

Why it matters now

Since 28 June 2025 the European Accessibility Act requires many consumer-facing digital services in the EU — online shops among them — to be accessible. Germany implements it through the BFSG (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz); in France, the RGAA sets the rules for public bodies and large companies. Micro-enterprises that provide services (fewer than 10 employees and no more than €2 million turnover or balance sheet) are exempt under the Act.

Whether your website is affected depends on your business — check with your legal adviser. What I offer is the technical side: a website built to WCAG 2.1 AA, the level that the European standard EN 301 549 refers to for the web. I do not issue legal certificates, and this page is not legal advice.

Accessible does not mean boring

This website has real-time 3D, particles and scroll animation — and it scores 100 for accessibility in Google Lighthouse. The 3D is decoration on top of real HTML content, every text is readable without it, and motion slows down for visitors who ask for less. See 3D websites.

Automated tests like Lighthouse find many problems but not all of them, so keyboard use, focus order and screen reader output are also checked by hand.

Timeline, price and what is included

Accessibility is part of the build, so it does not add a separate phase: a company website typically takes 3–7 days once texts and images are ready. Estimates, not guarantees.

Price by agreement — you get a free estimate within 24 hours. Custom design and code, phones first, basic SEO, help with domain and hosting, and 30 days of fixes after launch are always included.

Frequently asked questions

Does my business have to have an accessible website?

Under the European Accessibility Act many consumer-facing services, including online shops, must be accessible since 28 June 2025; micro-enterprises providing services are exempt. The exact answer depends on your business and country, so please check with a legal adviser.

Which standard do you build to?

WCAG 2.1 level AA — the level that the European standard EN 301 549 refers to for websites.

Do you certify that my website is legally compliant?

No. I build to WCAG 2.1 AA and check the result, but I do not issue legal certificates or legal advice.

What is BFSG?

The Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz — Germany’s law implementing the European Accessibility Act, in force since 28 June 2025.

What is RGAA?

The French accessibility framework (Référentiel général d’amélioration de l’accessibilité), based on WCAG, which sets the rules for public bodies and large companies in France.

Can a website with 3D and animation be accessible?

Yes. All content stays in real HTML, the 3D is decoration on top, motion slows down with “reduce motion” and a static version is shown where 3D cannot run.

Does accessibility help SEO?

Much of it overlaps: clear headings, descriptive image texts, real links and fast pages help both people and search engines.

Can you make my existing website accessible?

For most sites a redesign is the cleanest way, because accessibility is built into the structure. Send the address and you get a free estimate within 24 hours.

How do we work together?

In English or Bosnian, by email and online video calls. In person in Sarajevo by arrangement. You get a reply within 24 hours.
